The Borough of Brownsville has experienced a slight increase in population since 2005. Demographically, the borough offers a low cost of living and affordable housing in a family-oriented community with police, fire and ambulance services. Residents of the historic riverfront town enjoy a well-rounded quality lifestyle, supported by a public library, U.S. Post Office, public school district, numerous community organizations, activities for all age groups, public wharf with boat launch and a growing number of professional services, restaurants and retail. The borough is situated 5 miles south of the University of Pennsylvania at California and within 40 miles of approximately 20 universities and colleges in the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Statistical Area and Morgantown, WV.
